Sights / Optics:  The front sight is an adjustable post between two protective ears, and the rear sight is an RPK style adjustable tangent “u” notch. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock has trench art. The 3 piece stock set is wood with checkered synthetic semi pistol grip, straight comb, vented forend, rubber buttpad. The bi-pod is attached. There are scratches and compression marks throughout. There are chips along the forend. There is a crack along the top of the upper handguard. The LOP measures 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall the stock rates in about Fair condition. This rifle was built with a Romanian RPK Kit.

Finish Originality: Original to Build

Bore Condition:  The bore is gray and the rifling is worn. There is heavy erosion in the bore. There is pitting in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 5.5 out of 10.  

Overall Condition:  This rifle retains about 96% of its finish. The balance of the finish shows handling and storage wear. There are scratches and thinning throughout. There is surface rust forming throughout the receiver. The dust cover has thinned throughout. The screw heads are tool marked with serviceable slots. The pins and rivets range from unmarred to lightly marred. The markings are crisp. Overall this rifle is in about Fair condition.  

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle.  As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Yugoslav Zastava M72 was developed as a squad automatic weapon based on Yugoslavia’s Kalashnikov-pattern service rifles, incorporating a substantially longer and heavier barrel, folding bipod, and other features intended for sustained fire. The M72B1 was the later stamped-receiver version and used a reinforced Yugoslav-pattern receiver with a bulged front trunnion. This modern semi-automatic example was assembled on a NoDak Spud NDS-9 receiver, a receiver specifically produced for fixed-stock Yugoslav M72 builds, using a 1983-dated M72B1 parts kit. The surviving military wood furniture, including its trench art, gives the rifle much of the character of the original Yugoslav service weapon.

This rifle retains approximately 96% of its current blue finish with scratches, thinning, surface rust developing on the receiver, and considerable finish loss on the dust cover. The Yugoslav wood furniture rates in Fair condition with scratches, compression marks, chipped areas along the forend, and a crack along the upper handguard. The bore is gray with worn rifling, heavy erosion, and pitting, rating 5.5/10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, though we did not fire this rifle, and no magazine is included.
