Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed to a textured ramped base integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch elevator sight with fine elevation adjustment, dovetailed to the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb and checkered steel Winchester buttplate. The barrel has a flat band behind the front sight. The LOP is 13 1/4″ from trigger to buttplate. There are scratches and compression dents throughout. There is some oil darkening at the wrist. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this stock is in Good to Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. There is some copper fouling. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 70% of its original metal finish. There are scratches and some corrosion staining throughout. There is handling and operational wear. The receiver shows the most of the handling wear. The screw heads are tooled but serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in Good to Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The rifle has a half-cock safety and a lever safety. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1894 Flat Band Carbine is a desirable postwar variation of Winchester’s classic lever-action sporting rifle, chambered in .30-30 Winchester and configured with a 20″ barrel, full-length tubular magazine, and straight-grip walnut stocks. This 1947 example features the distinctive flat front barrel band associated with a relatively short production period, along with traditional open sights and a checkered steel buttplate. Its compact dimensions and classic configuration make it representative of the handy carbines that helped define the Model 94’s enduring reputation.
Introduced in 1894, the Winchester Model 1894 became one of the most successful lever-action rifles ever produced and helped establish the .30-30 Winchester as a standard North American hunting cartridge. Flat Band carbines were produced during the immediate post-World War II period and are readily identified by their simplified flat front barrel band, a feature that distinguishes them from both earlier and later production. These carbines remain especially appealing to Winchester collectors because of their short-lived configuration and their place in the transitional postwar production era.
