Our Assessment: This rifle is a modern semi-automatic build assembled on a U.S.-made D.C. Industries/NoDak Spud NDS-5 receiver using a matching-numbered, 1988-dated Yugoslav Zastava M70B1 parts kit. The NDS-5 was specifically designed for fixed-stock M70B1 builds and replicates the heavier 1.5mm receiver configuration characteristic of Yugoslav-pattern Kalashnikov rifles. Chambered in 7.62x39mm, the M70B1 pattern is readily distinguished by its extended three-slot handguards, rubber buttpad, folding grenade-launcher sight and gas shutoff system, and detachable 22mm rifle-grenade launcher spigot. The serialized components from the original kit are matching, including the stock, while the upper handguard bears surviving trench art, adding character to the rifle’s Yugoslav military components.
This rifle retains approximately 94% of its current metal finish with scratches, thinning, normal handling and storage wear, and scattered areas of developing surface rust. The Yugoslav wood furniture remains in Good to Very Good condition with scratches, compression marks, and several deeper compressions but no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling but shows light erosion, light pitting, and fouling in the grooves, rating 6/10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, though we did not fire this rifle. No magazine is included, and the rifle comes with a canvas sling.
