Markings: The internal marked parts are each marked “09”. The rear toggle is marked with a script “DWM”. The front of the frame under the barrel and the underside of the barrel are marked “609 / a”. The bottom of the barrel is also marked “609 / a / 8,83”. The top of the barrel extension at the chamber is marked “1916” and the left is marked “609”. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with three crowned script characters and an imperial eagle. The toggle train is marked “09”. The left side of the frame under the safety is marked “GESICHERT”. The safety lever is marked “09”. The safety flag is marked “09”. The trigger and takedown lever is marked “09”. The inside of the right panel is marked “09”. Both grip panels are marked with an “H”. The bottom of the magazine is marked “7635 / f”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated blade dovetailed to a serrated base fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a “V”-notch in the top of the rear toggle link.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered wood. The grips have handling wear with some scattered scratches and compression marks. There are a few deep compression marks on both panels. The checkering is well defined and smooth in other places. A few of the peaks have smoothed or chipped off. There are no cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Fair – Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original. All numbered parts match, including the internal components. 

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is defined. There is faint erosion in the bore. There is light fouling in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates at a 7 out of 10. 

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 92% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows handling and storage wear. There is operational wear. There are scratches and thinning throughout. Most of the thinning is on the leading edges. There are a few spots of surface rust forming throughout the frame and barrel. There are light nicks throughout. There are spots of surface rust forming on the front and back strap. The screw heads are sharp. The markings range from clear to worn. Overall, this pistol is in about Fair – Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The DWM P.08 Luger is one of the defining military handguns of the early 20th century and served as a standard Imperial German sidearm during World War I. Adopted by the German Army in 1908, the P.08 combines Georg Luger’s distinctive toggle-locked recoil system with a striker-fired mechanism, detachable magazine, and 9mm Parabellum chambering. This 1916 chamber-dated example was manufactured by Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken and displays Imperial military acceptance and proof marks. All observed numbered parts described in the listing match the pistol’s serial suffix, including several internal components, which is an important consideration for Luger collectors.

This pistol is in about Fair-Good condition overall and retains about 92% of its original blued finish, with operational wear, scratches, edge thinning, scattered nicks, and spots of surface rust on the frame, barrel, frontstrap, and backstrap. The checkered wood grips rate in about Fair-Good condition, showing scratches, deep compression marks, worn or chipped checkering peaks, and areas worn smooth without cracks. The bore is bright with defined rifling, faint erosion, and light fouling; in this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 7 out of 10. The action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol.
