Markings: The lock plate is marked “1853 ENFIELD”. The left side of the chamber is marked “3523”. The right side of the buttstock is marked with a “PARKER HALE LTD” address stamp. The top of the chamber are markers “crown over BP”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned into a base soldered to the barrel. The front sight is slightly bent. The rear sight is a folding adjustable V notch ladder sight screwed to the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is smooth walnut. The LOP measures 14″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the brass buttplate. There is light handling wear. There are light scratches and compression dents throughout. There is a little wear behind the hammer. There is a stain on the upper wrist from water or cleaner. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this stock is in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is light fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its original finish. There are light handling marks and scratches throughout. The brass has some age darkening and tarnish. The screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: This rifle is in functional condition. The hammer holds full and half cock. The nipple is free but shows light corrosion. The firing channel is clear. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

The original Pattern 1853 Enfield was adopted by the British Army in 1853 and quickly became one of the most widely used military muzzleloaders in the world. It saw extensive service during the Crimean War and was imported in large numbers by both Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War, where it became second only to the Springfield rifle-musket in overall use. Parker-Hale reproductions earned an outstanding reputation among collectors, reenactors, and competitive muzzleloading shooters for faithfully reproducing the original design while maintaining excellent manufacturing standards.

The bright bore retains sharp rifling and rates 9/10, while the action functions correctly with proper full- and half-cock engagement, a free nipple, and a clear firing channel. Overall, this is a Very Good Parker-Hale Pattern 1853 Enfield that remains an excellent example of one of the finest reproduction Civil War-era rifle-muskets produced.
