Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q.” / “MADE IN JAPAN”. The right side of the barrel is marked “BROWNING AUTO-5” / “INVECTOR PLUS SPECIAL STEEL 12GA. SHELLS 2 3/4″ 28″” / “BROWNING PATENTS”. The left side of the receiver is marked “Light Twelve” / “BROWNING” and a Browning portrait. The bottom of the receiver is marked “01215” / “NW211”. The receiver, trigger guard, and the upper and lower tang are Grade I engraved. There is a gold-colored Browning logo on the bottom of the trigger guard.
Barrel Length / Choke: 28″, Threaded, Invector Plus IMP. MOD choke installed
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a silver bead atop a vent-rib fixed at the muzzle. The top of the receiver and barrel rib are serrated for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece checkered walnut set with a rounded pistol grip, fluted straight comb, hard rubber Browning buttplate, and finger grooves running the length of the forend. There are scattered handling scratches and compression marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14 1/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks are in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates about 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are scattered handling scratches and scuffs. There is an abrasion on the bottom of the barrel approximately 2-3″ from the muzzle. There are minor takedown lines on each side of the barrel. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Browning Auto-5 was designed by John Moses Browning and became the first commercially successful semi-automatic shotgun, using a distinctive long-recoil system in which the barrel and bolt move rearward together before separating during the operating cycle. After decades of Belgian production, manufacture shifted to Miroku in Japan, where the design continued with excellent machining, fit, and finish. The Light Twelve variant reduced weight while retaining the standard 12-gauge chambering, making it especially well suited to upland hunting and general field use. By the 1990s, Japanese-production Auto-5 shotguns incorporated the Invector Plus choke system while preserving the classic humpback receiver, Grade I engraving, walnut furniture, and proven long-recoil action that had defined the model for generations.
This 1994 Auto-5 Light Twelve retains approximately 95% of its original blue finish, with scattered handling scratches, scuffs, light takedown marks, and a localized abrasion near the muzzle. The checkered walnut stocks remain in Fine condition, while the bright 9.5/10 bore has no visible erosion. The action functions correctly, and the 28″ vent-rib barrel is fitted with an Improved Modified Invector Plus choke tube, giving this shotgun a versatile field configuration.
