Our Assessment: This Beretta Model 72 Jaguar was manufactured in 1959 and is chambered in .22 Long Rifle. The Jaguar series was developed as a lightweight sporting and training pistol, combining Beretta’s renowned craftsmanship with excellent reliability and handling. This example is particularly desirable because it includes both the standard 3.5-inch carry barrel and the longer 5.9-inch target barrel, allowing the shooter to configure the pistol either as a compact field and plinking handgun or as a more precision-oriented target pistol. The fixed-barrel, blowback-operated design is well known for delivering excellent inherent accuracy, while the slim grip and natural pointability make the Model 72 a pleasure to shoot.
Beretta’s postwar rimfire pistols have long been admired for their quality machining, elegant styling, and dependable performance, and the Model 72 Jaguar is no exception. The interchangeable barrel system adds a level of versatility rarely found on rimfire pistols of the era, giving the owner the best of both worlds in a single package. Whether appreciated as a collectible piece of Beretta history or enjoyed on the range, this 1959 Jaguar remains a beautifully crafted .22 LR pistol that exemplifies the timeless quality of Beretta’s classic sporting handguns.
