Our Assessment: Galil was developed from the rugged Kalashnikov operating system, with substantial influence from the Finnish Valmet RK 62, and adapted to meet Israeli military requirements for reliability in harsh desert conditions. The Model 329 retained the Galil’s long-stroke gas piston, rotating bolt, ambidextrous controls, folding tubular stock, protected sights, and robust milled receiver while chambering the substantially more powerful .308 Winchester and 7.62 NATO cartridges. Its 18-inch barrel and folding stock created a comparatively compact battle-rifle configuration without sacrificing full-power rifle performance. This example remains in Very Good Plus condition, retaining approximately 97% of its original black enamel and Parkerized surface finish. The rifle displays scattered light scratches, handling marks, and limited operational wear, while the markings remain clear and the screw heads and pins are well preserved. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, showing only light stubborn fouling and rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. Its folding stock, polymer pistol grip, and ribbed handguard remain solid, with only light cosmetic wear and no chips or cracks. The receiver cover-mounted rear sight is numbered to the rifle, while the original tritium inserts are no longer luminous. The included 25-round magazine remains in Excellent condition.
Pre-1989 Action Arms Galils are among the most desirable semiautomatic rifle imports of their era, particularly the less commonly encountered 7.62 NATO models. The Model 329 combines the reliability and distinctive profile of the Israeli Galil with the range and authority of the .308 Winchester cartridge, giving it considerable appeal as both a collectible military-pattern rifle and a capable shooter. The original box, paperwork, cleaning kit, magazine, and two Galil posters make this an unusually complete package and significantly enhance its collector interest. This rifle should appeal strongly to collectors of Israeli military arms, pre-ban imports, and classic full-power semiautomatic rifles. -R.E.
