Markings: The internal marked parts are each marked “41”. The rear toggle is marked with a script “DWM”. The front of the frame under the barrel and the underside of the barrel are marked “1341 / e”. The bottom of the barrel is marked “1341 / 8,83”. The top of the barrel extension at the chamber is marked “1911”. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with two imperial proofs with an early eagle. The left side of the frame under the safety is marked “GESICHERT”. The safety indicator is marked “41”. The trigger and takedown lever is marked “41”. The inside of both panels are marked “41”. The toggle train is marked “41”. The front strap is marked with a Bavarian unit marking “B. R. S. T. 72”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated blade dovetailed to a serrated base fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a “V”-notch in the top of the rear toggle link.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered wood. The grips have handling wear with some scattered scratches and compression marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi bright. The rifling is defined. There is light erosion in the bore. There is light pitting in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates at a 6 out of 10. 

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 45% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows handling and storage wear. There is operational wear. There are scratches, thinning, and corrosion pitting. There is thinning on the leading edges. The blue finish has turned to a patina in areas. The front and back strap both have turned to a patina. There are spots of corrosion pitting on the frame. There is surface rust freckling on the barrel. The screw heads are sharp. The markings range from clear to worn. Overall, this pistol is in about Fair – Good condition. 

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards. This P08 is unconverted. (No bolt hold and shoulder stock lug)

Our Assessment: The DWM P.08 Luger is one of the iconic German military pistols of the early 20th century, known for its toggle-locked action, distinctive profile, and extensive Imperial German service. Adopted by the German Army as the Pistole 08 in 9mm Parabellum, the P.08 became closely associated with World War I German sidearms. This 1911-dated DWM example is especially interesting for its Bavarian unit marking on the front strap, “B. R. S. T. 72,” along with its “DWM” script toggle, “GESICHERT” safety marking, Imperial proofs, and matching “1341 / e” frame and barrel markings.

This pistol is in about Fair-Good condition overall, retaining about 45% of its original blued finish with handling and storage wear, operational wear, scratches, thinning, patina on the frontstrap and backstrap, corrosion pitting, edge wear, and surface rust freckling on the barrel. The checkered wood grips rate in Very Good condition, showing handling wear with scattered scratches and compression marks, but no chips or cracks, and the grip panels are marked “41” internally. The bore is semi-bright with defined rifling, light erosion, and light pitting, rating 6 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, the markings range from clear to worn, and the pistol comes with one wooden-floorplate 8-round magazine, takedown tool, and leather holster. This Bavarian unit-marked DWM Luger should appeal to collectors of Imperial German pistols, WWI sidearms, unit-marked Lugers, and C&R military handguns.
