The original caliber has been XXXX overstamped. The left side of the receiver is marked with a circled “WP” proof, and “WINCHESTER / – TRADE MARK -“. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number “111094”. The bottom of the bolt body is marked with the serial number “111094”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight has been removed and the dovetail plugged. The rear sight has been removed and the dovetail plugged. The left side of the receiver is drilled and tapped for a peep sight. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope base. There is a Leupold Vari X II in a Redfield mount mounted on this rifle. We cannot guarantee optics.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one piece checkered walnut, semi pistol grip, straight comb, and rubber recoil pad. There are sling studs installed. The LOP is 14″ from trigger to recoil pad. The recoil pad is hardened and cracked. There are several repaired cracks throughout. The stock has been refinished. There is finish in the checkering. There are scratches and compression dents throughout. Overall this stock is in Fair condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. There is minor fouling. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its original metal finish. There is handling and operational wear. There are scratches and light corrosion freckles scattered throughout. The screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 is renowned for its controlled-round-feed action, robust construction, and excellent handling, qualities that earned it the enduring title “The Rifleman’s Rifle.” Originally manufactured in 1949, this example was later customized to .308 Norma Magnum, a powerful belted cartridge developed for long-range hunting and capable of performance approaching that of the .300 Winchester Magnum. The conversion combines a desirable early Model 70 action with a potent magnum chambering, making this rifle more appealing as a vintage custom hunting arm than as an original collector-grade Winchester.
This rifle retains approximately 80% of its original metal finish, with operational wear, scratches, and scattered light corrosion freckles. The refinished walnut stock is in Fair condition due to several repaired cracks, finish filling portions of the checkering, scattered scratches and compression dents, and a hardened, cracked recoil pad. The original iron sights have been removed and their dovetails plugged, while a Leupold Vari-X II scope in a Redfield mount provides a practical hunting sighting system. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and only minor fouling, earning a 9/10 rating. The serialized bolt matches the receiver, and the action and safety function correctly. Overall, this is a mechanically sound, well-used custom pre-’64 Model 70 with strong utility as a powerful scoped sporting rifle.
