Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “US / MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY. 129638”. The stock is marked with a worn cartouche and “P” on the straight wrist.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned to a base that is soldered to the barrel. The rear sight is an 1896 Type 4 U-notch leaf sight marked out to 18 and screwed into the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a two piece wood with nose cap with bayonet lug and sling ring, banded forend with sling ring, straight grip, straight comb, and metal buttplate with trapdoor. There is light handling and storage wear. There are scratches and compression marks throughout. There are a few light scuffs throughout. There is a chip on the left side of the stock below the side plate. There are no cracks. The LOP measures 13.25″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall this stock is in about Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is defined. There is no erosion in the bore. There is fouling in the grooves. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates 8 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 15% of its finish. The balance of the finish shows handling and storage wear. There are scratches and thinning throughout. Most of the finish has gone in the white and/or a patina. There are scratches, light nicks, and light surface rust forming throughout. Most of the surface rust is forming on the buttplate. The screw heads range from sharp to tooled with serviceable slots. The markings range from clear to worn. Overall this rifle is in about Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
