Markings: As I did not want to risk damaging the finish I did not disassemble the whole rifle. Many of the markings will be omitted.
The top of the receiver is marked, “U.S. CARBINE CAL. 30 M1 / I.B.M. CORP. / 3955466 ”
Front sight: “N”
Rear sight: “I.R.CO. 7160060” International register CO.
Magazine release: “M”
Barrel Band: “AI” Autoyre Inland
Safety: “SS” post war replacement part.
Stock: “HI” for Hillerich and Bradsby AKA Louisville Slugger. The right flank has an ordnance wheel. The grip has a circle “P” acceptance stamp and “I3”. It is hard to tell if this is an original stock that has been sanded and refinished or a replacement stock that has been re-marked.
Barrel Length: 18″
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade set between protective ears. The rear sight is the later style sliding aperture sight with a knurled windage knob dovetailed to the receiver.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is an Oval cut, low wood, type 3 barrel band, four rivet upper handguard, with a rotary safety and a checkered metal butt plate. The LOP measures about 13.25” from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The stock set shows only very minor handling and a few very small compressions. There are some very small chips in the edges of the sling cut that appear to have been sanded down. As stated above It is hard to tell if this is an original stock that has been sanded and refinished or a replacement stock that has been re-marked. There are no cracks. The metal butt plate has been refinished and shows almost no wear. Overall the stock set is in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is very bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible pitting/erosion in the bore. If this barrel had been fired it was very little. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10. This appears to be a James River replacement barrel.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The rifle shows only minor handling and a few very small marks. The visible markings are slightly faded due to the refinish. The screw heads are sharp and the springs are strong. Overall this rifle is in Excellent-Like New condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This IBM M1 Carbine was originally manufactured between August 1943 and May 1944 by International Business Machines Corporation, one of the more unusual yet highly respected producers of the M1 Carbine during World War II. IBM carbines are prized today for their quality and their connection to the remarkable industrial effort that saw American companies turn to arms production. The lightweight, handy M1 Carbine proved immensely popular with U.S. servicemen and remains one of the most iconic American military rifles of the twentieth century.
According to the owner, this rifle was refurbished by James River Armory, receiving a new-production Criterion barrel, a complete refinish, and a thorough mechanical inspection with replacement of any worn springs. The stock set was also refinished or possibly replaced and remarked, though its exact history is difficult to determine. Regardless, the result is a rifle that presents in excellent, like-new condition while retaining the historic character of its wartime IBM receiver, making it an appealing combination of collectible heritage and modern shootability.
