Markings: The lock plate is marked “1853 ENFIELD”. The left side of the chamber is marked “6391”. The right side of the buttstock is marked with a “PARKER HALE LTD” address stamp. The top of the chamber are markers “crown over BP”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a barley corn blade on a base soldered to the barrel. The rear sight is a folding adjustable V notch ladder sight screwed to the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is smooth walnut. The LOP measures 14″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the brass buttplate. The brass has darkened with age and use. There are light scratches and compression dents throughout. There is some weathering around the lock and buttstock. The stock rates Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is light fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original finish. There is some scattered handling and operational wear. There is thinned bluing near the muzzle from bayonet use. There are a few light scratches and corrosion stains scattered throughout, the most notable about halfway down the barrel on top. The screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: This rifle is in functional condition. The hammer holds full and half cock. The nipple is free. The firing channel is clear. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Parker-Hale Birmingham P1853 Enfield Rifle-Musket is a well-made English percussion muzzleloader chambered in .577 caliber and produced prior to 1992, qualifying here as an ATF antique by ignition type. It follows the classic Pattern 1853 Enfield configuration with a 39″ barrel, percussion lock marked “1853 ENFIELD,” walnut stock, brass buttplate, barleycorn front sight, and folding adjustable ladder rear sight. The Parker Hale buttstock address stamp, visible serial number, crown-over-BP proof, and included sling and bayonet add to its appeal as a quality reproduction of one of the most recognizable 19th-century military rifle-muskets.
Condition is Very Good overall, with the rifle retaining about 95% of its original blued finish. The metal shows scattered handling and operational wear, light scratches, a few corrosion stains, and thinning near the muzzle consistent with bayonet use. The most notable exterior blemish is a corrosion stain on the top of the barrel about halfway down its length. The screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable, and the markings remain clear. The smooth walnut stock is also in Very Good condition, showing light scratches, compression dents, and some weathering around the lock and buttstock, while the brass furniture has darkened naturally with age and use.
The bore is a strong feature, remaining bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and only light fouling, rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the rifle is functional, with the hammer holding at both full and half cock, a free nipple, and a clear firing channel, though it has not been test fired. As with any used black powder firearm, a thorough cleaning and inspection are advisable before use. Overall, this is a clean and attractive Parker-Hale P1853 Enfield rifle-musket with strong bore condition, functional mechanics, desirable English manufacture, and excellent accessory value from the included sling and bayonet.
