Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “PYTHON 357 / *357 MAGNUM CTG*”. The right side of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. / HARTFORD CONN. U.S.A.”. The flat under the crane and the crane are marked with the serial number “77658E”. The sideplate is marked with a Rampant Colt logo. The left front of the trigger guard is marked with “VP” in a triangle and “T” at the rear.
Barrel Length: 6″ Vent-Rib with Full Underlug
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated, ramped blade pinned to the front of the rib. The rear sight is a square notch adjustable for windage and elevation in a base pinned to the top-strap. The top of the barrel rib and the top strap have a matte finish to reduce glare.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut with Gold Colt Medallions at their tops. The grips have handling marks, scratches, and small chips with finish loss on the bottom of the grips. The checkering is sharp with worn peaks in some areas. There are no cracks. Overall, the grips are in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore but there is minor fouling present. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 95% of its finish. The balance of the finish is strong throughout. There are some smudges and swirls on the frame. There is some thinning near the muzzle and along the barrel. The cylinder has a turn-line through the finish and there is wear in the cylinder stops. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The lock-up on this revolver is solid, with no play when the trigger is depressed. The action functions correctly. We have not fired this revolver. This revolver has a wide target style hammer and a serrated trigger. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Colt Python was introduced in 1955 as Colt’s premium .357 Magnum double action revolver and quickly became one of the most admired American revolvers of the postwar era. Built on Colt’s large-frame action and finished to a higher standard than most production revolvers of its day, the Python became known for its smooth hand-fitted action, excellent trigger pull, ventilated rib barrel, full underlug, adjustable sights, and deep polished blue finish. The 6” barrel configuration is one of the classic Python forms, offering a long sight radius, good balance, and strong appeal for target shooting, hunting, collecting, and display. Manufactured in 1977, this example comes from the desirable original-production period before Colt discontinued the first-generation Python line. With its blued finish, vent-rib full-underlug barrel, target-style hammer, serrated trigger, walnut stocks with gold Colt medallions, and strong bore, this revolver represents one of Colt’s most iconic commercial handguns.
