Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 94 Big Bore Carbine is an early 1980s production lever-action rifle chambered in the relatively uncommon .356 Winchester cartridge. Built on the strengthened Big Bore variant of the Model 94, it features a 20″ barrel, full-length tubular magazine, checkered walnut stocks, banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, and Winchester orange buttpad. The rifle retains its factory iron sight setup with a beaded front blade on a serrated ramp and a folding U-notch rear sight, while the receiver is drilled, tapped, and filled for a receiver sight, maintaining useful flexibility for both traditional and modern sighting options.
Condition is Very Good overall, with the rifle retaining about 98% of its original blued finish. The metal shows only minor handling and box wear, with sharp screw heads and clear markings throughout. The walnut stock set is also in Excellent condition, showing only light handling marks and no chips or cracks. The included factory box adds to its completeness and enhances collector appeal, particularly for a Big Bore variant in such well-preserved condition.
The bore is bright with sharp rifling, though minor fouling and a few small spots of light corrosion and pitting are present, rating 8/10 in this writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the action functions correctly, and the trigger pull is described as crisp, though the rifle has not been test fired by us. As with any used firearm, a thorough cleaning and inspection are advisable before use. Overall, this is a highly desirable Winchester 94 Big Bore in .356 Winchester, offering strong originality, excellent exterior condition, factory box inclusion, and solid mechanical integrity, making it appealing to both collectors of Big Bore Winchesters and practical lever-action enthusiasts.
