Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling wear, with a couple minor marks on the receiver, and some minor operational marks on the falling block. Otherwise, the finish is deep, dark, and intact throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the tang mounted safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with its original serial number matching box, and owner’s manual/paperwork.

Our Assessment: Ruger’s No. 3 is a classic single-shot falling-block rifle that shares its heritage with the No. 1, but in a more compact and simplified configuration, offering strong action integrity, clean lines, and straightforward hunting utility. This 1980 example is chambered in .375 Winchester, a straight-walled, lever-gun-derived cartridge designed for short to medium range big-game hunting, offering heavy bullet performance and strong terminal effect at woods distances. This rifle features a 22″ barrel, falling-block action, tang-mounted safety, factory iron sights, and a walnut stock set with a crescent buttplate. The combination of excellent condition, desirable .375 Winchester chambering, classic No. 3 configuration, and included factory box and paperwork makes this an attractive example for Ruger collectors and hunters seeking a compact, hard-hitting single-shot rifle.

This rifle rates in Fine to Excellent overall condition, retaining about 98% of its original blued finish. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, though minor fouling is present, rating 9.75/10 in this writer’s opinion. The walnut stock set rates in Excellent condition, showing only minor superficial handling/storage marks consistent with careful storage, while retaining an intact finish, tight fit to the barreled action, and no chips or cracks. The metal shows only light handling and operational marks on the receiver and falling-block assembly, while the bluing remains deep, dark, and intact overall. The markings are clear and legible, the screw heads are sharp, and the action and tang safety function correctly. This rifle includes its original serial number matching box and owner’s manual/paperwork. Please see our photos for a better understanding of condition, and good luck on your bids! – J.D.
