Markings: The top of the barrel is marked with Ruger’s 2-line warning & address. The left side of the barrel is marked “.257 ROBERTS”, along with a proof mark. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, and “RUGER M77”.

Sights / Optics: There are no iron sights present. This rifle comes with a set of uninstalled 1″ scope rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut stock, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, red rubber Ruger buttpad, a checkered forend, and sling rings front and rear. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. There is little to no wear. There are a few faint scratches and compression marks. The checkering is sharp. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. There is light fouling in the grooves. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling wear. There are light scratches throughout the barrel. The bluing is intact, deep, and dark on the barrel. The receiver’s finish has turned to a light plum color. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the tang mounted safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Ruger M77 is a classic American bolt-action hunting rifle known for its controlled-round-feed Mauser-style action, integral hinged floorplate magazine, and rugged field reliability. Chambered in .257 Roberts, this example represents a mild-recoiling, flat-shooting classic cartridge well suited for deer, antelope, and general North American big game. It is configured with a 22” barrel, blued finish, internal magazine with hinged floorplate, tang-mounted safety, uninstalled 1” scope rings, and a one-piece checkered walnut stock with semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, red rubber Ruger buttpad, checkered forend, and sling rings.
This M77 is in Excellent condition overall, retaining about 99% of its original metal finish with only light handling wear and a few faint scratches along the barrel. The bluing remains deep and dark, while the receiver shows a light plum tone consistent with Ruger M77 rifles of this era. The walnut stock rates in Excellent condition, showing little to no wear with only faint handling marks, sharp checkering, and a tight fit to the action. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and light fouling in the grooves, rating 9 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, the tang-mounted safety operates as intended, and the screw heads are sharp. This rifle comes with its factory box, paperwork, and scope rings, making it a highly desirable early Ruger M77 in the classic .257 Roberts chambering.
