Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL / MADE IN U.S.A. / —WINCHESTER—TRADE MARK / 2 3/4 CHAM. / MODEL 1912 – 20 GA / MOD”. The base of the receiver is marked with the serial number “1198656“. The base of the barrel shroud is marked with the serial number “1198656“.

Sights / Optics: There is a metallic bead at the muzzle.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece wood with semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, black hard rubber Winchester buttplate, and an 11 groove pump slide. The stocks show a few scratches, pressure dents, and small areas of finish loss. The LOP measures 14″ from the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttpad. The stocks rate a Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original.

Bore Condition: The bore is mirror-bright. It has been honed. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10 as a honed barrel.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 50% of its metal finish. The receiver and barrel exhibit tiny corrosion pitting and light handling wear. The mag tube shows extensive operational wear. There is moderate fading throughout. Overall, this shotgun rates a Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 12 shotgun is an icon (some might say the icon) in the Winchester line. You know a gun was designed and built right when over two million copies were produced over a 60-plus year span. It is a highly regarded pump-action firearm celebrated for its ruggedness, adaptability, and reliability. This writer remembers one afield in the hands of his own grandfather with great nostalgia.

This desirable solid rib Model 12 shotgun was made in 1949. It is in Very Good condition and is sound mechanically.

Here is a very traditional repeater which weighs in at 6 lb, 12 oz. It would provide an excellent quail gun come the fall…
