Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the barrel flat is marked “S” and the right side of the barrel is marked “S.&W. 357 MAGNUM”. The yoke cut is marked “MOD. 65-5”. The left side of the frame has an S&W logo. The right side of the frame is marked with the four line “Marcas Registradas” address. The butt of the grip frame is marked with the serial number. The yoke and sides of the grip frame are marked with inspection marks.
Barrel Length: 3″ Pinned Ported
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramp pinned to the rib and painted red. The rear sight is a notch milled into the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece, checkered walnut round butt magna-style stocks. There are a few infrequent light marks on the grips. The checkering is strong. The grips rate in about Fine overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is a bit of fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 92% of its metal finish. There is light handling wear in the form of scratches on barrel, frame, cylinder, and trigger guard. There is a dragline on the recoil shield. There are burn marks on the front of the cylinder. There is a faint turn line on the cylinder. The screw heads vary from sharp to lightly tooled. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates a Very Good to Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double-action is smooth, the single action is crisp. The lockup has minor side to side play. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be required to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This S&W .357 Magnum revolver with its heavy 4” barrel is a true service handgun and can easily be carried openly or concealed. It could serve well for home defense or carry, and as such, would also be suitable for competition. It is a solid six-shot double-action revolver that can accept 357 Magnum or 38 Special ammunition. This gun has nice trigger pulls and a good lockup, it should provide the successful bidder with a lifetime of service and with its high condition it should be a nice addition to a Smith & Wesson collection.
