Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked with Remington’s address, patent numbers, “6MM REM.”, the “BU” date code, and a couple of proof marks. The right side of the barrel is marked with a series of proof marks. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, and “Remington / MODEL 700”.

Sights / Optics: The iron sights have been removed. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Leupold Vari-X II 3-9x scope with a fine crosshair reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light wear, with a few scratches and dings scattered throughout the scope’s finish. Overall, the scope rates in Good condition. The scope is mounted to the receiver by a one-piece Leupold style base, and sits in 1″ rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece, press-checkered walnut stock, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted monte carlo comb with cheekpiece, black rubber Pachmayr buttpad (the buttpad is not original to the stock), a tipped forend, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light to moderate wear, with scattered scratches, dings, scuffs and compressions throughout. The pressed checkering is mostly well defined. The finish is mostly intact, with only a couple of small areas of worn finish, most notably on the left side of the stock, just under the receiver. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some light fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with light thinning of the finish on the barrel and on the muzzle. There are light scratches and dings scattered throughout all of the metal surfaces, but most notably on the bottom metal and trigger guard. The jeweling on the bolt is largely intact, however, there is some operational wear on the bolt and on the friction surfaces of the action. The bluing is largely intact, otherwise. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are tooled, but serviceable. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: Remington’s Model 700 BDL is one of the classic American bolt-action sporting rifles, pairing the proven Model 700 action with upgraded BDL trim, Monte Carlo walnut furniture, and traditional hunting rifle styling. This 1971 C&R-eligible example is chambered in 6mm Remington, a flat-shooting cartridge well suited for varmints, predators, and medium game with proper loads, offering mild recoil and excellent field accuracy potential. This rifle features a 22″ barrel, internal magazine with hinged floorplate, press-checkered walnut BDL stock, and a Leupold Vari-X II 3-9x scope with clear glass and fine crosshair reticle. The C&R status, vintage BDL configuration, useful Leupold optic, and less-common 6mm Remington chambering should appeal to Remington collectors, hunters, and shooters looking for a classic light-recoiling sporting rifle.
This rifle rates in Good overall condition, retaining about 90% of its original blued finish. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and only light fouling present, rating 9.5/10 in this writer’s opinion. The walnut stock rates in Good condition, showing light to moderate scratches, dings, scuffs, and compressions, with mostly well-defined pressed checkering, a few small areas of worn finish, and a non-original Pachmayr buttpad, while still fitting tightly with no chips or cracks. The metal shows light finish thinning on the barrel and muzzle, scattered scratches and dings throughout, most notably on the bottom metal and trigger guard, along with operational wear on the bolt and action friction surfaces, though the bolt jeweling remains largely intact. The iron sights have been removed, the Leupold scope rates in Good condition with clear glass and light exterior wear, the markings are clear and legible, the screw heads are tooled but serviceable, and the action and safety function correctly.
