Markings: The left side is marked with a crown and, “1965” in Arabic with an import serial number of 39382. The right side of the receiver rail is marked “HAKIM 7.9mm MADE IN EGYPT”. There are various Arabic markings throughout. The magazine has a crown. There is an import mark on the barrel.
Barrel Length: Approximately 23 Inches, 25 3/4 “ with muzzle device.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded blade post set atop a raised block. The rear sight is an aperture elevator sight marked to 10 in Arabic.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished stock is a two piece wood set with a capped forend & bayonet lug, barrel band w/ sling bar, finger grooves, semi-pistol grip, sling loop, straight comb, steel buttplate. The LOP measures 13.25 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There is moderate handling wear, to include scratches, compression marks and small areas of finish loss. There are chips missing adjacent to the buttplate. The stock rates a Good to Very Good overall condition.
Type of Finish: Matte Blued
Finish Originality: Refinished.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is fouling in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates at about 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its metal refinish. There is light to moderate handling wear throughout, some of which has allowed tiny areas of corrosion to appear where blueing was lost. The screw heads are lightly tooled. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates a Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Egyptian Hakim rifle, produced at Factory 54 in Maadi, represents Egypt’s adoption and adaptation of the Swedish Ljungman AG42 design during the mid-20th century. Chambered in 8mm Mauser, the Hakim was modified from the original Swedish pattern to accommodate the more powerful cartridge, resulting in a robust semi-automatic service rifle with a distinctive direct impingement gas system. Manufactured in the late 1950s and early 1960s, the Hakim reflects a period of military modernization in Egypt initiated by General Abdul Gamal Nasser. It was eventually replaced in the Egyptian military by the AK-47.
This example shows clear signs of service use and wear, retaining approximately 80% of its original finish with light handling wear throughout.
This Hakim rifle represents a well-used example of a Cold War-era military semi-automatic rifle that has seen both service and time. Its combination of Egyptian manufacture, Ljungman-derived design, and visible wear reflects the practical realities of military arms in prolonged use. It seems completely functional and remains a historically relevant example of mid-20th century military rifle development and the continued use of the 8mm Mauser cartridge (63 years old by the time this rifle was built) in global service.
