Sights/Optics: The front sight is a metal blade fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a flat top square notch dovetailed to the slide. The top of the slide is matte for glare reduction.
Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “COLT’S MKIV/SERIES ’70” / “GOVERNMENT MODEL” / “.45 AUTOMATIC CALIBER”. The right side of the slide is marked “COLT’S GOVERNMENT MODEL”. The right side of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CONN. U.S.A.” and the serial number.
Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are a two piece checkered walnut with gold Rampant Colt medallions. There is little to no handling wear. The checkering remains sharp and defined. Overall, the grips rate in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is minor fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates a 9/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its nickel finish. There are handling scratches and scuffs throughout the surfaces. There are very minor areas of oxidation staining and freckling on the slide stop and the matte finished areas. The screws are sharp. Overall, this pistol rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Colt Government Model Mk IV/Series 70 is a handsome 1977 commercial 1911-pattern pistol chambered in classic .45 ACP and finished in original nickel. Colt’s Series 70 Government Models are highly regarded by many 1911 enthusiasts for their traditional pre-Series 80 configuration, commercial Colt markings, and strong connection to the classic postwar Government Model lineage. The 1911 platform itself remains one of the most influential American handgun designs of the 20th century, and the Series 70 era occupies a particularly desirable place for collectors who appreciate vintage Colt quality without the later firing pin safety system. This example has the full-size 5″ Government Model profile, fixed sights, matte-topped slide for glare reduction, checkered walnut grips with gold Rampant Colt medallions, and attractive original nickel finish.
