Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER ® BIG BORE MODEL 94 XTR – 375 WIN. / –MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL–”. The top rear of the barrel is marked with a circled “WP” proof. The front underside of the receiver is marked with the serial number.

Barrel Length: 20″

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated ramped base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch elevator sight dovetailed to the barrel. The left side of the receiver is drilled, tapped, and filled for a receiver sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb and an orange Winchester buttpad. The LOP is 13 1/2″ from trigger to buttpad. There is minor handling wear. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this stock is in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.  There is minor fouling.  In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are scattered minor scratches on the receiver and barrel. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger pull is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 94 XTR Big Bore in .375 Winchester presents as an excellent example of one of Winchester’s more desirable late-production Model 94 variants. Manufactured circa 1978–1982, the Big Bore XTR line was built to give the classic Model 94 platform increased power over traditional chamberings, and the .375 Winchester chambering makes this rifle particularly appealing to collectors, hunters, and lever-action enthusiasts. The 20″ barrel, full-length tubular magazine, straight-grip walnut stocks, and original orange Winchester buttpad give it the classic handling profile expected from a Model 94 carbine-style rifle.

Condition is a major strength of this example. The rifle retains approximately 98% of its original blue finish, with only scattered minor scratches on the receiver and barrel and light operational wear. The markings remain clear, the screw heads are sharp, and the action is reported to function correctly with a crisp trigger pull. The bore is especially strong, rated 9.5/10 by the writer, with bright lands, sharp rifling, no erosion, and only minor fouling. The checkered walnut stocks are also in Excellent condition, showing only minor handling wear and no cracks or chips.

Overall, this is a high-condition Winchester 94 XTR Big Bore that should have strong appeal as both a collectible and a field-capable lever-action rifle. Its original finish, excellent bore, clean wood, and included box all add positively to its desirability. While it has not been test-fired and should be inspected and cleaned according to the buyer’s standards, the rifle appears mechanically sound and very well preserved, making it a standout example of the .375 Winchester Big Bore configuration.
