Our Assessment: This Beretta BM-59, manufactured by Beretta circa 1971, is a rifle design derived from the legendary M1 Garand and chambered in .308 Winchester / 7.62×51 NATO. This example is fitted with a 19-inch SLIMA-marked barrel and feeds from detachable 20-round box magazines, one of the major improvements over the original Garand design. The BM-59 retained the strength and reliability of the M1 action while incorporating a detachable magazine system, traditional sights, and other modernized features that made it a highly effective postwar battle rifle.

This rifle is fitted with traditional wood furniture, giving it the classic appearance associated with Cold War-era military arms while maintaining the robust feel of its Garand heritage. The BM-59 is widely regarded as one of the most successful Garand evolutions ever produced, offering the familiar handling characteristics of the M1 while adding the convenience of detachable magazines. As a Beretta-produced rifle, this example represents an important piece of military firearms history and an interesting bridge between World War II-era designs and the battle rifles of the Cold War period.
