Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are one piece textured rubber Hogue with finger grooves. There are no chips or cracks, though there are small scratches and compression marks. The grips are in a Fine condition.
Type of Finish: Stainless
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. Though there is lead fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains nearly all of its metal finish. The balance of the stainless shows mild operation wear — to include burn marks on the outside of the cylinder. The cylinder has a light turn line that is crisp. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates an Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup has almost no play on each of the six chambers. The double-action trigger is light and smooth and the single-action is light and crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with an original S&W blue box.
Our Assessment: The S&W Model 625 is a gun with an interesting, if confusing, history. There was never a 625 no dash, nor have any 625-1s been seen with the first revolvers being model 625-2. This particular example is a 625-4, a 1993 modification that changed the rear sight leaf and extractor and added Hogue grips and a chambering in .45ACP.
It weighs in at 43 oz., and would indeed make a nice (relatively) lightweight bear or camp gun for use in the bush.
