Our Assessment: The Kimber Model 84 is a refined bolt-action sporting rifle, and this example is especially appealing in the classic varmint and small-game chambering of .222 Remington. Built with controlled-round-feed operation and an internal magazine, it offers traditional bolt-rifle handling in a lighter, trim sporting configuration. The rifle is fitted with a 22” barrel, a hooded beaded front sight on a banded ramp, and a folding two-leaf rear sight mounted in a quarter rib, giving it a more upscale and traditional field-rifle presentation. The installed Talley scope bases add practical utility for modern optics while preserving the rifle’s clean sporting lines.
This rifle remains in Very Good to Excellent overall condition, retaining about 97% of its original blued finish. The metal shows light scratches, scattered corrosion freckles, and normal handling and operational wear, but the screw heads remain sharp and the markings are clear. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, though some stubborn copper fouling is present; in this writer’s opinion, it rates 9/10. Mechanically, the action functions correctly, the safety operates as intended, and the trigger has a crisp, clean break, though the rifle has not been test fired.
The checkered walnut stock is also in Very Good to Excellent condition, showing light scratches and compression dents throughout, along with some light chipping at the heel, but no cracks. Its capped forend, capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, checkered steel buttplate, and installed sling mounts give it a tasteful and practical classic sporting appearance. Overall, this is a handsome Kimber Model 84 in .222 Remington with strong bore condition, high remaining original finish, quality sights, Talley bases, and desirable small-caliber sporting appeal, well suited for the collector, varmint shooter, or hunter seeking a well-made traditional bolt-action rifle.
