Our Assessment: The Olympic Arms OA-93 is one of the most distinctive AR-pattern pistols produced during the 1990s and early 2000s, developed at a time when manufacturers were experimenting with compact rifle-caliber handgun configurations. Unlike conventional AR-pattern firearms, the OA-93 utilized a unique recoil system mounted above the barrel, eliminating the need for a traditional receiver extension and giving the pistol its unmistakable profile. Chambered in 5.56 NATO, one of the most influential military rifle cartridges of the modern era, the OA-93 offered rifle-caliber performance in a compact and innovative package. This example remains in very good plus overall condition, retaining approximately 97% of its original finish with only light handling wear visible throughout. The bore remains strong, showing bright surfaces and sharp rifling with only minor fouling present, supporting its 9 out of 10 rating. The tubular aluminum handguard and polymer grip remain in very good to excellent condition with only minor handling wear visible and no structural damage present. The pistol also includes two aluminum magazines and accompanying paperwork, enhancing its overall completeness and appeal.
Altogether, this Olympic Arms OA-93 represents a unique chapter in the development of the AR-pattern firearm platform. Its compact dimensions, bufferless operating layout, and distinctive appearance separate it from conventional AR pistols while maintaining compatibility with many familiar AR-15 components. As examples become increasingly scarce, the OA-93 remains an interesting and collectible firearm that highlights the innovation and experimentation that characterized the American firearms market during the late 20th century. -R.E.
