Our Assessment: The Weatherby Mark V Deluxe Maple is a distinctive and attractive Weatherby sporting rifle, pairing the company’s strong Mark V bolt action with a less commonly encountered maple Deluxe stock. This C&R-eligible example dates to the 1964–1973 production range and is chambered in 7mm Weatherby Magnum, a flat-shooting magnum cartridge well suited to medium and large game at extended ranges. The rifle is configured with a 24” barrel, internal magazine, hinged floorplate, and a drilled-and-tapped receiver fitted with a Redfield scope base, with no provision for iron sights, as expected on a scoped magnum hunting rifle.
This rifle retains about 85% of its original blued finish and rates Good overall. The metal shows scratches, scattered corrosion stains, and general handling and operational wear, with screw heads that are tooled but serviceable. The markings remain clear. The bore is a strong feature, remaining bright with sharp rifling, no erosion, and only light fouling; in this writer’s opinion, it rates 9/10. Mechanically, the action functions correctly and the safety operates as intended, though the rifle has not been test fired.
The maple Deluxe stock gives this rifle considerable visual appeal, with skip-line checkering, capped semi-pistol grip, fluted Monte Carlo comb with cheekpiece, checkered and tipped forend, brown vented Weatherby buttpad, and front and rear sling studs. The stock shows scratches and compression dents throughout, along with a few chipped finish spots, but no cracks, rating Good overall. While the rifle shows honest field wear and is not a pristine collector example, it remains a desirable Weatherby Mark V Deluxe Maple in 7mm Weatherby Magnum, offering original finish, a strong bore, functional mechanics, and classic Weatherby styling in a scarcer stock configuration.
