Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded Globe style sight dovetailed to the barrel. There is a bubble level installed. The rear sight is a flip up adjustable peep sight screwed to the upper tang.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a two piece walnut set with a straight wrist, straight comb, and checkered metal buttplate. There is little to no handling wear. There are light scratches and compression marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is light fouling in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows little to no wear. There are scratches throughout. The blue and case color finish are vibrant. The screw heads range from sharp to tooled with serviceable slots and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:  The Rolling Block rifle pattern remains one of the most enduring single-shot designs, originally developed in the 19th century and widely adapted into modern custom target rifles. This custom example reflects that legacy with a heavy octagon barrel, precision sighting system, and refined fit and finish consistent with a purpose-built target rifle. Chambered in .45-70 Government, introduced in 1873, the rifle utilizes a cartridge long favored for its versatility and performance in both target shooting and hunting applications.

This example presents in excellent overall condition, retaining nearly all of its original finish with only minimal handling wear visible. The walnut stock remains in excellent condition with only minor marks and no structural issues. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and only light fouling present. The rifle is equipped with a globe front sight with level and an adjustable tang-mounted peep sight, supporting precise shooting. The action functions correctly, and the overall build reflects a high-quality custom configuration. Altogether, this rolling block rifle stands as a well-executed modern target rifle in a classic configuration.
