Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co, New Haven Conn USA, Patented October 14, 1884/ 32 WCF”. The top of the barrel and receiver are each marked with the Winchester Oval WP proof. The upper tang is marked “Model 1892 Winchester Trade Mark Reg in US Pat Off & FGN” The bottom front of the receiver is marked with the serial number.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned to a base integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a folding carbine style ladder sight. The upper tang is drilled and tapped for a peep sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is two piece smooth walnut, banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, with a steel carbine buttplate. The LOP is 13″ from trigger to buttplate. There are scratches and compression dents throughout. There is a crack in the left side of the wrist. There is some oil darkening at the wrist. Overall this stock is in Fair condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is gray. The rifling is defined. There is some erosion and pitting throughout. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates 6/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 75% of its original finish. There is thinning bluing at the muzzle and leading edges. There are scratches and corrosion freckling scattered throughout. There is worn bluing on the receiver along with corrosion staining. The screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in Fair condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine is a C&R-eligible example manufactured in 1919 and chambered in .32-20 W.C.F. The 20″ round barrel, full-length tubular magazine, saddle ring carbine configuration, pinned blade front sight, folding carbine ladder rear sight, banded forend, straight-grip walnut stock, and steel carbine buttplate give it the classic Winchester carbine profile. The upper tang is drilled and tapped for a peep sight, adding period-style sighting flexibility, while the clear factory markings and Winchester oval “WP” proofs help preserve its historical identity.
Condition is Fair overall. The rifle retains about 75% of its original blue finish, with thinning at the muzzle and leading edges, scratches, corrosion freckling, receiver finish wear, and corrosion staining. The screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable, and the markings remain clear. The walnut stock shows scratches and compression dents throughout, along with oil darkening at the wrist and a crack on the left side of the wrist. Because of that wrist crack, the stock rates Fair and would benefit from careful evaluation or repair before regular use.
The bore is gray with defined rifling and shows erosion and pitting throughout, rating 6/10 in this writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the action functions correctly, the hammer retains its half-cock safety position, and the trigger is crisp, though the rifle has not been test fired. Overall, this is an honest Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine in the desirable .32-20 W.C.F. chambering, with strong period character, functional mechanics, and substantial remaining finish, but its cracked wrist, bore wear, corrosion freckling, and general handling wear keep it in the Fair condition category rather than a higher collector grade.
