Sights/Optics: The front sight is a Novak style blade with white dot fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a Novak square notch with white dots dovetailed to the slide. The top of the slide has a matte finish to reduce glare.

Markings:  The left and right side are engraved with a deep relief cattle brand motif and “COLT”. The left side of the frame is marked “GOVERNMENT MODEL”. The right side of the frame is marked with “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.” and the serial number. 

Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are two piece fancy walnut with engravings of cattle brand motifs and “COLT”.  There are little to no handling marks on the panels. The texture remains defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall the grips are in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates a 9.75/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun’s brushed stainless surfaces are bright and virtually free of handling marks.  The matte stainless areas have some wear marks on the grip safety. The barrel, hood, and action show operational use. Overall, this pistol rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: Serial matching plastic blue Colt box, 2x 8-round magazines, allen key, paperwork, child lock, and chamber flag. 

Our Assessment:  This Colt Government Model XSE Cattle Brand is a limited TALO-exclusive 1911, one of only 300 examples produced in .45 ACP. Built on Colt’s stainless Government Model platform, this pistol pairs the classic 5″ single-action 1911 format with upgraded XSE features, Novak-style three-dot sights, fancy walnut grips, and deep-relief cattle brand motif engraving on both sides of the slide. The cattle brand theme gives the pistol a distinctive Western collector character while retaining the practical handling and familiar ergonomics of Colt’s full-size 1911 pattern. 

This example remains in Excellent overall condition, showing bright brushed stainless surfaces, only minor wear on the matte stainless areas, and light operational evidence on the barrel, hood, and action. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, rating 9.75/10 in this writer’s opinion. It is accompanied by its serial-matching Colt blue plastic case, two 8-round magazines, paperwork, allen key, child lock, and chamber flag.

For the Colt collector, TALO collector, or 1911 enthusiast, this Cattle Brand XSE offers a desirable combination of limited production, factory presentation, stainless construction, and complete accessories. Its low .45 ACP production figure makes it far less commonly encountered than standard Government Models and gives it strong appeal as both a display-worthy collectible and a premium Colt 1911.
