Our Assessment: The Ruger Vaquero, introduced in the early 1990s, is a modern single-action revolver designed to emulate the classic lines and handling of Old West firearms while incorporating Ruger’s robust construction and materials. Built on a solid frame with coil spring internals, the Vaquero offers durability and reliability beyond many traditional designs while retaining the familiar loading gate operation and fixed sight arrangement. Chambered in .44 Remington Magnum, a cartridge introduced in 1955 and widely recognized for its power and versatility, the revolver delivers substantial performance in a platform styled after historical single-action revolvers. The 5.5 inch barrel provides a balanced configuration between handling and sight radius. This 2005 example presents in excellent overall condition, retaining approximately 99 percent of its original stainless finish with only light handling and operational wear visible. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and only faint fouling present, supporting strong performance potential. The smooth wood grips with Ruger Phoenix medallions are in excellent condition, showing minimal wear, though there are slight gaps between the panels and the frame. The revolver exhibits light burn marks on the cylinder face and a faint turn line consistent with normal use. The fixed front blade and topstrap notch rear sight provide a simple and durable sighting system aligned with the revolver’s traditional design.

The Vaquero represents Ruger’s approach to combining classic single-action styling with modern strength and reliability. This example reflects that balance, offering a high-condition revolver with a powerful chambering and durable stainless construction. With its clean presentation and traditional profile, it stands as a representative example of a modern single-action revolver inspired by historical designs. -R.E.
