Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.”, the left is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45”. The left of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2, 72 JAN. 19, 75” and with a rampant colt logo. The left of the trigger guard is marked “P” at the rear and the verified proof mark at the front. The right side of the trigger guard is marked “P”. The bottom of the frame and the left of each portion of the trigger guard are each marked “28179SA”. The front face of the cylinder is marked with a matching serial. The rear face of the frame (under the right grip panel) and the rear face of the loading gate are each marked with assembly number “148”. The left side of the grip frames are both marked “28179SA”.

Barrel Length: 4 3/4”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter-round blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch at the rear of a groove in the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece smooth ivory. There are light scratches and handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall these grips are in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There are a few spots of light superficial corrosion. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its original finish. There are light scratches and handling marks. There is very minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall this revolver is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Produced in 1959, this example falls within the early years of the 2nd Generation series, a period when Colt reestablished the SAA using original tooling and methods that closely mirrored pre-war production. The 4 3/4″ barrel configuration is one of the most sought-after lengths, offering a compact and well-balanced profile that has long been associated with practical carry and handling.
