Our Assessment: The Colt’s Manufacturing Company Single Action Army, introduced in 1873, quickly became an enduring symbol of the American frontier and remains one of the most recognizable revolver designs ever produced. The 2nd Generation production run, spanning from 1956 to 1974, marked Colt’s reintroduction of the Peacemaker after World War II, combining traditional styling with improved post-war manufacturing techniques. Chambered in .357 Magnum, a cartridge developed in the 1930s as a high-velocity evolution of earlier revolver rounds, this configuration offers modern ballistic capability in a classic single action platform, making it both historically grounded and highly practical.

This 1970 example remains in Excellent condition, retaining approximately 99% of its original blued and case colored finish with only minor handling marks and light operational wear on the cylinder and hammer. The 4 3/4″ barrel gives the revolver a quick, balanced feel, true to the classic “gunfighter” configuration. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, rating 9.5/10 in this writer’s opinion, and the action exhibits tight lockup with no perceptible play. The smooth pearlite grips with Colt medallions are in Excellent condition, providing a striking visual contrast to the traditional finish. This revolver presents as a well-preserved and attractive example of a 2nd Generation Colt SAA. Please see our photos for a better understanding of the condition and good luck with your bids! -MY
