Our Assessment: This WWII U.S. Remington Rand 1911A1 was manufactured in 1944 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic pistol. Produced by Remington Rand under U.S. government contract, Remington Rand became the largest producer of M1911A1 pistols during World War II. Known originally for typewriters and business machines, the company successfully transitioned into wartime arms production and delivered hundreds of thousands of pistols to support the Allied war effort. This example retains all parts correct for the period and configuration.

Chambered in .45 ACP with a 5 inch barrel, this pistol follows the standard M1911A1 service configuration issued to American forces during the war. The .45 ACP cartridge was adopted in 1911 and remained the primary U.S. service handgun round through both World Wars. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition. The action functions correctly. Included is a 7 round General Shaver magazine. General Shaver was one of the wartime subcontractors that supplied magazines for U.S. military 1911 production, and their “G” marked magazines are often sought by collectors looking to complete a period-correct WWII rig.

This pistol retains approximately 98 percent of its current metal finish, presenting a remarkably strong example for a 1944 production sidearm. The grips rate in Excellent condition with minimal visible wear. Overall, this pistol is in about Fine condition and stands as a highly desirable Remington Rand M1911A1 with correct components and a period magazine.
