Barrel Length: 3″ Full-Rib without compensator
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramp blade with a red insert dove-tailed to a ramped base integral to the barrel rib. The rear sight is a flat top, square notched leaf in a serrated base that is micrometer click adjustable for windage and elevation.
Stock Configuration & Condition: This revolver has a one-piece Hogue smooth walnut. There is little to no handling wear. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is minor fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates at a 9/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains nearly all of its metal finish. There are light handling marks across the metal surfaces. There is a light turn line on the cylinder. The screw heads are sharp, with minor tooling. The markings are clear and legible. Overall, this handgun rates in an Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lockup is tight, with very minimal play. The double-action is smooth and the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Model 627-3 V-Comp is a Performance Center revolver that reflects the company’s modern approach to high-capacity, precision-tuned wheelguns. Built on the large N-frame, the 627 series adapts the classic .357 Magnum platform to an eight-shot cylinder, offering increased capacity while maintaining the strength and balance associated with Smith & Wesson’s flagship revolvers. The V-Comp variant incorporates a removable compensator system designed to reduce muzzle rise, enhancing control in rapid fire. Chambered in .357 Magnum, a cartridge introduced in 1935 and long regarded for its versatility and performance, the revolver also accepts .38 Special, providing flexibility across a wide range of shooting applications.
This example remains in Excellent condition, retaining nearly all of its original stainless finish with only light handling marks and a faint turn line on the cylinder. The 3″ full-rib barrel without the compensator installed offers a compact, heavy-profile configuration, complemented by a dovetailed serrated front sight with red insert and a fully adjustable rear sight. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 9 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion, showing only minor fouling. The Hogue smooth walnut grip is in Excellent condition, with little to no visible wear. The Performance Center-tuned action is smooth in double-action with a crisp single-action break, and lockup is tight with minimal play. This revolver presents as a well-maintained example of Smith & Wesson’s modern high-performance revolver line.
