The stock’s finish is largely intact, and the checkering is mostly well defined. The wood grain on the buttstock is a little weatherchecked. Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: Introduced in 1964, the Remington Model 600 was a forward-thinking carbine built for hunters who wanted magnum performance in a compact, lightweight package. Its 18 1/2 inch barrel with ventilated rib, dog-leg bolt handle, and short action made it one of the most recognizable sporting rifles of the era. Chambered here in .350 Remington Magnum, this rifle represents one of the original and most significant chamberings for the Model 600 line. The .350 Remington Magnum debuted in 1965 alongside the rifle, offering powerful big-game performance from a short action cartridge, well suited for elk, moose, and bear in thick timber where a quick-handling rifle was essential.

This December 1965 example retains approximately 98 percent of its original blued finish, with only light oxidation noted on the bolt handle. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 9.5 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The press-checkered laminate stock remains in Very Good condition, showing scattered handling marks and mild weather checking in the buttstock grain, but no structural cracks or chips. The action functions correctly and the rifle maintains its classic configuration with factory vent rib and open sights intact. Overall, this is a strong mid-1960s Model 600 in its original .350 Remington Magnum chambering, offering both historical appeal and substantial field capability.
