Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94 Large Loop Trapper represents a modern adaptation of the classic Model 94, combining traditional styling with features tailored for compact handling and contemporary use. Produced in the late 20th century, this Trapper configuration with its 16″ barrel emphasizes portability and quick target acquisition, while the large loop lever adds both functional ease of operation and a distinctive visual profile. Chambered in .357 Magnum, a cartridge introduced in 1935 and widely used in both revolvers and carbines, the rifle offers mild recoil, versatility, and practical performance in a lightweight lever-action platform.
This example retains its classic layout with a full-length tubular magazine, traditional open sights, and a receiver drilled and tapped for optics. The hardwood stocks remain in Very Good condition, showing only light handling wear with a few scattered marks and no structural issues. The metal finish is well preserved, retaining approximately 97% of its original blue with only minor signs of use. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and minimal fouling, indicating careful maintenance. The addition of a leather butt cuff complements the rifle’s utilitarian character without detracting from its overall presentation.
Altogether, this rifle presents as a clean and well-maintained example of a later-production Model 94 variant, enhanced by the desirable large loop configuration and smooth action work. Its compact dimensions and pistol-caliber chambering make it a practical and approachable lever gun, while its high remaining finish and strong bore reflect responsible ownership. It stands as a refined example of Winchester’s continued evolution of the Model 94 platform into the modern era.
