Barrel Length: 22″

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade, dovetailed to a serrated ramp, screwed to the barrel. The rear sight is a U-notch leaf on a riser dovetailed to a base, screwed to the barrel. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Millett “The Buck” 4-12x scope with a duplex reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light wear, with a couple of light scratches and dings in the scope’s finish and on the turrets. Overall, the scope rates in Good to Very Good condition. The scope is mounted on a two-piece base, and sits in 1″ rings.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece, press-checkered walnut stock, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted monte carlo comb with cheekpiece, checkered metal Remington buttplate, a checkered forend, and sling rings front and rear. There is a leather sling attached to the stock. The LOP measures 13 1/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock shows light wear, with scattered scratches, dings, and compressions throughout. The stock’s finish is largely intact. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some light fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with a few minor scratches and dings scattered throughout the metal surfaces. There is oxidation on the bolt handle and the bolt body. Otherwise, the bluing on the barrel, receiver, and bottom metal is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are lightly tooled, and lightly corroded, but all retain strong and serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Good to Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope and sling as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: The Remington 700 BDL, introduced in 1962, quickly became one of the most respected bolt-action sporting rifles in American history. By 1968, when this example was produced, the Model 700 had already established its reputation for strength, accuracy, and a crisp trigger system that would define the platform for decades. Chambered in .243 Winchester, a cartridge introduced in 1955 and prized for its flat trajectory and moderate recoil, this rifle reflects the classic dual-purpose American deer and varmint configuration that made the BDL a staple in the field.

This August 1968 rifle retains approximately 95 percent of its original blued finish, with light handling wear and some oxidation visible on the bolt handle and body. The 22 inch barrel remains bright with sharp rifling and rates 9.5 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The press-checkered walnut stock with Monte Carlo comb and metal buttplate presents well, showing honest field wear while maintaining solid structure and fit. Equipped with a Millett “The Buck” 4-12x scope and leather sling, this C&R-eligible Model 700 BDL represents a well-preserved example of a late-1960s Remington sporting rifle in one of the era’s most practical chamberings.
