Bore Condition: The smooth bores are bright and there is no erosion present. There are no visible lines from use or plastic fouling in the forcing cones. If this shotgun has been fired outside of factory testing it appears to have been very little. In this writer’s opinion the bores rate 10/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The barrel set shows minor scattered marks with some rub wear from the forend that is hidden when the shotgun is assembled. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this shotgun is in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The lockup is tight. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Four total chokes.
Our Assessment: This SKB Model 885 Skeet is a 28 gauge over/under featuring 28-inch barrels threaded for interchangeable choke tubes. Built during the era when SKB of Japan was well regarded for producing durable and finely fitted sporting shotguns, the 885 Skeet combines competition-ready features with upscale finish details. The coin-finished engraved receiver is decorated with game scenes depicting a duck and a pheasant, while the gold-toned trigger incorporates the barrel selector, a distinctive and practical design feature.
The shotgun is fitted with high-grade walnut furniture finished in a high-gloss sheen, giving it an especially refined appearance. This example appears to have seen very little, if any, use, with bores being in exceptional condition. Overall, it represents a particularly attractive and well-preserved small-bore SKB, offering desirable 28 gauge handling qualities along with premium cosmetic and mechanical features.
