Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER MODEL 9422M XTR – .22 WIN. MAGNUM / MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. – WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”. The top of the barrel is marked with a circled “WP” proof mark. The bottom of the receiver is marked with the serial number.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded beaded blade, dovetailed to a serrated ramp, screwed to the barrel. The rear sight has been removed. The top of the receiver is grooved for optics.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece, gloss finished, checkered walnut stock set, with a straight grip, straight comb, checkered plastic Winchester buttplate, and a checkered banded forend. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stocks show minor handling wear, with only a few superficial imperfections throughout. The gloss finish is intact, and the checkering is well defined. The stocks fit tightly to the frame, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stocks rate in Fine to Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some minor fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows minor wear, with only a few light scratches and minor dings scattered throughout the metal surfaces. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads show signs of light tooling, but all retain strong and serviceable slots.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 9422M XTR represents one of the finest modern rimfire lever actions ever produced in New Haven. Introduced in 1972, the 9422 series was designed to replicate the handling and balance of the centerfire Model 94 in a rimfire platform, and by 1984 the XTR trim level added upgraded walnut and high-polish finishing. Chambered in .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, a cartridge introduced in 1959 to deliver substantially higher velocity and flatter trajectory than the standard .22 Long Rifle, the 9422M offered small game hunters and ranch shooters a rimfire with true varmint capability and classic Western lines.
This example retains approximately 99 percent of its original blued finish, with only minor handling marks and light screw head tooling visible. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 10 out of 10. The gloss finished walnut stocks remain in Fine to Excellent condition with well defined checkering and only minor superficial impressions. The rear sight has been removed and the receiver remains grooved for optics, while the action cycles properly and locks up as it should. Overall, this is a strong and clean mid-1980s production 9422M XTR in desirable .22 WMR configuration.
