Our Assessment: The Zbrojovka Brno ZKW 465 is a refined European sporting rifle built in Czechoslovakia during the mid twentieth century, known for its precision machining and elegant design. These rifles were produced with features such as a Mauser-style controlled round feed bolt and double set triggers, reflecting traditional continental sporting rifle craftsmanship. Chambered in .22 Hornet, a cartridge introduced in the 1930s for varmint and small game hunting, the platform offers mild recoil and excellent accuracy in a lightweight bolt action rifle.
This example was manufactured in 1971 and retains about 97 percent of its original blued finish with light operational and storage wear, including scattered scratches, thinning, and areas of light surface rust along with patina on the magazine. The checkered hardwood stock with Schnabel forend shows moderate handling wear with scratches and compression marks but remains free of cracks, rating in Very Good condition overall. The bore is bright with sharp rifling along with faint erosion and pitting, rating 7 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The rear sight is missing, though the receiver is milled for scope mounts. The action functions correctly and the double set trigger operates as intended with a crisp break. Overall, this rifle presents as a well made Brno sporting rifle with classic European features.
