Our Assessment: The Browning Hi-Power Mk. III represents the final major evolution of one of the most influential semi automatic pistol designs of the 20th century, originally conceived by John Moses Browning and completed by Dieudonne Saive at FN Herstal. The Mk. III variant introduced modern improvements such as enhanced sights, a more durable finish, and internal updates while retaining the classic single action operation and ergonomics that made the Hi-Power a global standard. This 1990 production example reflects the transitional period when pistols were manufactured in Belgium and assembled in Portugal for import by Browning. Chambered in 9mm Luger, a cartridge introduced in 1902 and widely adopted worldwide, the platform offers a proven balance of capacity, controllability, and performance. This example retains approximately 99 percent of its original blued finish, with only minimal handling marks and light operational wear visible. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 9 out of 10, showing light fouling and minor lead buildup. The checkered walnut grip panels remain in Excellent condition, with little to no visible wear and no structural issues. Markings are clear and well defined, including the Browning import markings and Belgian proofs, with sharp screw heads and unmarred pins. The pistol includes two 13 round magazines and its original hard case with paperwork, presenting as a complete and well maintained package.

The Hi-Power Mk. III continues the legacy of a design that set the standard for high capacity service pistols, combining a slim grip profile with a smooth single action trigger. Its improved sighting system and durable construction make it well suited for practical use while maintaining its historical significance. This example stands as a clean and well preserved representation of late production Hi-Power pistols, offering strong condition, classic styling, and enduring performance in one of the most iconic handgun designs ever produced. -R.E.
