Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “FREEDOM ARMS .454 CASULL / *FREEDOM, WYOMING U.S.A.*”. The bottom of the frame is marked “D14542”. The right side of the frame is marked “Freedom Arms Premier Grade”. The left side of the frame has one patent number.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fiber optic beaded blade that is inserted into a base soldered to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable rectangular notch sight screwed to the top strap with elevation and windage adjustment.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece smooth Rosewood . There are light handling marks and scratches on the grips. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this set of grips is in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is some stubborn lead fouling in the bore. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates a 9/10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 97% of its original finish. There are scratches and handling wear throughout. There is powder fouling and staining from use on the cylinder and frame. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall this revolver is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The timing and lockup are tight. As with all used firearms a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.

Our Assessment: The Freedom Arms Model 83 Premier is widely regarded as one of the finest production single action revolvers ever made, engineered specifically to handle the extreme pressures of the .454 Casull cartridge. Introduced in the 1980s and manufactured in Freedom, Wyoming, these revolvers are built to exceptionally tight tolerances with precision machining and hand-fitting, resulting in outstanding strength, accuracy, and durability. The .454 Casull, originally developed by Dick Casull, is one of the most powerful revolver cartridges in common use, designed for serious hunting and field applications, and the Model 83 platform has become synonymous with that performance.
This example presents in Excellent condition, retaining approximately 97% of its original stainless steel finish with light scratches, handling wear, and visible powder staining on the cylinder and frame from use. The rosewood grips are also in Excellent condition, showing only minor handling marks with no structural issues. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and some stubborn lead fouling present, rating 9 out of 10. The revolver is fitted with a fiber optic front sight and an adjustable rear sight, providing a practical and highly visible sighting system. Notably, this revolver has been returned to Freedom Arms for custom work, including a barrel shortening to 4 3/4″, an action job, and conversion to a round butt configuration, as documented by included receipts.
