Our Assessment: The IMI Uzi Model B semi-automatic rifle is a civilian adaptation of one of the most recognizable submachine gun designs of the 20th century, originally developed by Uziel Gal in the early 1950s for the Israeli military. Imported by Action Arms Ltd. during the 1980s, the Model B represents the later and more refined semi-automatic variant, incorporating features such as a blocking bar and improved safety mechanisms for civilian compliance. As a pre-1994 example, this rifle falls into the desirable “pre-ban” category, retaining its original configuration including the folding metal stock. Chambered in 9mm Parabellum, a cartridge introduced in 1902 and widely adopted across military and civilian platforms worldwide, the Uzi platform is known for its simplicity, reliability, and compact design built around a direct blowback system.
This example retains approximately 98% of its original parkerized finish, showing only light scratching along the barrel and minor handling wear consistent with careful use. The 16.25″ barrel is paired with the classic adjustable front post and L-type flip rear aperture sight, maintaining the platform’s utilitarian sighting system. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, rating 9/10, with only light fouling present. The folding steel stock, ribbed polymer grips, and handguard remain in Very Good condition, preserving the rifle’s iconic profile and functional ergonomics. The included 25-round magazine, factory hard case, and owner’s manual further enhance the completeness of the package, while the markings remain crisp and clearly legible throughout.
The Uzi Model B stands as a defining example of late Cold War-era firearm design, blending military heritage with civilian adaptability in a platform that has become instantly recognizable worldwide. Its robust construction, straightforward operation, and distinctive silhouette have secured its place in both firearms history and popular culture. This pre-ban example presents as a well-preserved and highly complete representation of the model, retaining strong finish, excellent bore condition, and original accessories that reflect its period of import and use.
