Our Assessment: The DWM Model 1906 American Eagle Luger represents one of the early commercial export variants of the Luger pistol, produced for the American market in the first decade of the twentieth century. Identified by the American Eagle crest on the chamber, these pistols helped introduce the Luger design to U.S. shooters and collectors. The Model 1906 incorporated refinements over the earlier Model 1900, including the use of a coil recoil spring system while retaining the classic toggle locked action that defined the design. Chambered in 9mm Parabellum, the cartridge introduced alongside the Luger in the early 1900s, these pistols are closely tied to the early development of modern semi-automatic handguns.

This example retains matching serialized components marked with the “04” suffix and about 94 percent of its original blue, straw, and fire blued finish. The metal shows light handling wear, scattered scratches, thinning across the barrel and frame, and areas of light oxidation and patina, with some corrosion pitting visible on the back strap. The checkered walnut grip panels show moderate handling wear with minor smoothing and chipped peaks but remain free of cracks, rating in Very Good condition overall. The bore appears semi bright with sharp rifling along with light erosion and pitting, rating 6 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly and the pistol includes two wood floorplate magazines, one marked “CAL. 9M/M.” Overall, this pistol presents as an early American Eagle Luger with original finish and characteristic wear from long term use and storage.
