Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 Classic Super Express was designed as a modern interpretation of the controlled round feed safari rifle, combining the pre-64 style claw extractor with premium walnut and robust iron sights intended for dangerous game. Chambered in .375 H&H Magnum, a cartridge introduced in 1912 and long regarded as one of the most versatile and proven safari calibers ever developed, this rifle embodies the traditional African big-game format in a practical bolt action platform. The Super Express designation reflects its enhanced appointments and field-ready configuration.
This example retains approximately 98 percent of its original metal finish, with deep bluing and vivid bolt jeweling. The barrel has been cut to 20 3/4 inches from its original length, creating a more compact, quick-handling configuration while maintaining the .375 H&H’s authority. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 10 out of 10. The walnut stock remains in Very Good to Fine condition with well-defined checkering and only light handling marks; the original red Winchester buttpad is included along with the currently installed Limbsaver pad. A Leupold M8 2.5x Compact scope is mounted and remains clear, complementing the factory iron sights. The action and safety function correctly.
