Our Assessment: The Soviet M91/30 Mosin Nagant sniper rifle was one of the most recognizable precision rifles of the Second World War, with selected rifles fitted with optics for use by trained marksmen. Produced at arsenals such as Izhevsk, these rifles were chosen for accuracy and equipped with PU scopes, becoming a key component of Soviet infantry doctrine on the Eastern Front. Chambered in 7.62x54R, the cartridge adopted in 1891, the platform delivered reliable performance and remained in service for decades. Rifles bearing the sniper proof mark and later refurbishment stamps reflect both wartime production and postwar arsenal maintenance.
This example was produced at Izhevsk in 1943 and later refurbished, retaining matching serialized components and a PU scope with clear optics. The rifle retains about 98 percent of its arsenal finish with light handling wear, scattered scratches, and minor thinning along with traces of cosmoline and varnish in protected areas. The two piece hardwood stock shows light handling marks and finish wear but remains free of cracks or chips, rating in Fine condition overall. The bore appears semi bright with sharp rifling along with faint erosion and light fouling, rating 7.5 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly and the rifle includes a canvas sling and bayonet. Overall, this rifle presents as a refurbished Soviet sniper configuration M91/30 from wartime production.
