Our Assessment: The A. Uberti Model 1866 Yellow Boy is a striking modern reproduction of the historic Winchester Model 1866, manufactured by A. Uberti S.r.l. and imported by Stoeger Industries. Known as the “Yellow Boy” for its distinctive brass receiver, the 1866 was one of the earliest successful lever-action rifles and played a major role in the expansion of the American West. This example is elevated by its fully engraved brass receiver featuring detailed scrollwork and an engraved elk motif, giving it strong visual appeal as both a shooter and display piece. Chambered in .45 Colt with a 20” barrel, it offers a classic balance of shootability and historical styling.
This rifle remains in Fine overall condition, retaining approximately 98% of its original finish with only minimal handling and storage wear. The brass receiver shows only light marks, and the case-hardened components retain strong color. The wood stocks are also in Fine condition with only minor pressure dents and no structural issues. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and only minor fouling, rating 9.5/10. It is worth noting that the saddle ring is not present, though this does not detract from the rifle’s functionality or aesthetic appeal.
Overall, this is a beautifully finished and well-preserved example of a classic Old West design, enhanced by decorative engraving that makes it stand out from standard production models. It would make an excellent addition to a collection or serve as an eye-catching range rifle with historical flair.
