Our Assessment: The Colt Single Action Army is one of the most iconic revolvers in American firearms history, produced by Colt since its introduction in 1873. Known as the “Peacemaker,” the revolver became closely associated with the lawmen, outlaws, and frontier figures of the American West. Chambered in .45 Colt and prized for its rugged design and simple single-action operation, the Single Action Army remains one of the most recognizable revolver designs ever produced and continues to be celebrated through special editions and commemorative models.
This revolver is part of the Lawman Series Bat Masterson Commemorative produced in 1967, honoring famed frontier lawman Bat Masterson. Limited to just 500 examples, this particular revolver is number 90 of the series. The configuration of this Single Action is comparable to the special Order to Colt made by Masterson requesting:
“Gents: Please send Me one of your nickel plated short .45 calibre revolvers. It is for my own use and for that reason I would like to have a little Extra pains taken with it. I am willing to pay Extra for Extra work. Make it very Easy on the trigger and have the front Sight a little higher and thicker than the ordinary pistol of this Kind. Put on a gutta percha handle and send it as soon as possible, have the barrel about the same length that the ejector rod is.”
The commemorative features special barrel markings referencing the Lawman Series and Masterson’s name, along with a bright nickel finish and distinctive grips. The included presentation case is printed with a reproduction of a letter sent by Masterson to Colt specifying the order for his well-known revolver, further tying the piece to one of the legendary figures of the American frontier era
Due to the high level on condition, we chose to not operate the action and risk a turn line forming. The revolver is accompanied by its red felt-lined presentation case and paperwork. As a limited Second Generation Single Action Army commemorative, this Bat Masterson Lawman Series revolver represents a highly collectible tribute to one of the Old West’s most famous lawmen. Please see our photos for a better understanding of condition and good luck with your bids!
